Cash App vs Venmo vs Zelle for small business

All three are easy for customers who already use them. They differ on fees, protection and what happens when the customer uses a different app.

When each one makes sense

  • Zelle when customers are local, comfortable with bank transfers and you want zero fees.
  • Venmo when your customers are younger and already pay each other on Venmo. A business profile keeps personal and business separate.
  • Cash App when you already have customers on it and don't mind the fee.

The gap all three share

Each one only works if the customer has the same app and knows your username. For a new customer at your door, the answer is often "I don't have that", and the sale gets stuck at the last step. Card payment links don't have that problem because the customer opens a link and pays with a card or Apple Pay.

Where Mandalo fits

Mandalo isn't the cheapest option, and we won't pretend it is. On a $200 job, Venmo's business rate or Zelle's zero fee costs you less. What you're paying for is reach and simplicity: a secure link any customer can use, an itemized invoice option, a receipt trail and a dashboard that shows who has paid. There's no monthly fee, so it costs nothing until you use it.

Use whichever app your regulars like, and send Mandalo links to everyone else.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheapest for a small business?

Zelle is usually free for the sender and the receiver's bank often charges nothing, so it's typically cheapest. Venmo and Cash App charge sellers a percentage on business payments.

Should I use my personal account for business payments?

Business-profile accounts exist so personal and business activity stay separate and so you follow each app's terms. Check each app's rules for business use.
